Dean of College of Science
Professor Yang oversees the operation of the college. He is in charge of planning and development, major projects and finance.
Professor Yang is a Chair Professor of Department of Chemistry, Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, awardee of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars and was shortlisted for National Special Support Program for High-level Personnel. Professor Yang's current research focuses on Gas phase and surface chemical dynamics. He has published over 300 papers, 12 of which was published on Science while one was published on Nature. His research achievements were shortlisted for Top Ten scientific and technological progress in China. Professor Yang is now the Director of the Department of Chemistry of National Natural Science Foundation of China, Deputy to the 13th National People's Congress of the People’s Republic of China and the Vice President of the 30th Administrative Committee of Chinese Chemical Society.
Professor He is in charge of teaching, human resources and talents.
He is a Chair Professor and Head of the Department of Physics (concurrently). He was selected as a National Special Expert (Youth Talent Plan), Leader of the Pearl River Talent Plan of Guangdong Province and the Leader of a Shenzhen Peacock Team. He won the second prize of the Natural Science Award by the Ministry of Education. His research interests include transmission electron microscopy, thermoelectric materials, and structure and property relationship. He has published more than 160 papers with citations over 12,000 times, and his H-index reached 51.
Professor Zhang is in charge of science and research, international exchange and cooperation.
Professor Zhang is a Chair Professor of Department of Chemistry, awardee of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, the Yangtze River Scholar Award and the National Special Experts. His research interest lies in coordination chemistry and organometallic chemistry. Prof Zhang has published more than 350 papers. His articles have been cited for more than 15,000 times with the H index of 75. He also won the Arthur C. Cope Scholar Prize of the American Chemical Society.

Head of Department of Chemistry
Professor Zheng Zhiping is a Chair Professor of the Department of Chemistry and once served as the professor and vice director of Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, University of Arizona, and the Director of The Center for Applied Chemical Research at Xi’an Jiaotong University. He was elected as the Fellow of the Royal Chemical Society and a National Special Expert. His research interest lies primarily in the design, synthetic, characteristics and properties of both transition metal and the lanthanide elements and their corresponding materials applications. He has issued over 140 papers on professional journals, and 7 of them are used as cover articles. In addition, Professor Zheng were invited to write 10 chapters for academic monographs, including the first monograph on the clusters of rare earths and actinides: Chemistry and Materials as a guest editor. He was a Topic Editor and advisory for Crystal Growth and Design. He also serves on the Editorial Board of Journal of Rare Earths, Inorganic Chemistry Frontiers, Chinese Journal of Inorganic Chemistry.
Head of Department of Biology
Professor Chen Wei, Chair Professor at Department of Biology, was elected National Distinguish Expert in 2016. He is dedicated to researches about system biology and genomics, including gene regulation, identification and function of non-coding RNA, based on system biology, genetics of human disease, cancer genomics and others that are based on system biology. Since 2007, as a principle investigator, Dr. Wei Chen has published more than 30 papers as a first author or corresponding author, with a total of more than 100 papers. The total number of citations reached 17479, and the H-index reached 56 (October, 2019, based on Google Scholar).

Prof. Chen is Chair Professor of the Department of Chemistry, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and a winner of the National Outstanding Youth Science Fund. He has been selected into the "Ten Thousand People Program". He is mainly engaged in gas phase and surface chemical kinetics research, and has published more than 300 papers, including 12 in Science and 1 in Nature. He is currently director of the Chemistry Department of the National Natural Science Foundation of China and vice chairman of the 30th Council of the Chinese Chemical Society.
Head of Department of Statistics and Data Science
Professor Shao is a Chair Professor of the Department of Statistics and Data Science, selected as a National Special Expert and used to serve as head and Choh-Ming Chair Professor in the Department of Statistics at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and visiting professor in School of Mathematical Sciences, Zhejiang University. He has won Jia-qing Zhong Mathematics Award from the Chinese Mathematical Society, and State Natural Science Award in 1997 (3rd class) and 2015 (2nd class). He was elected the Fellow of Institute of Mathematical Statistics in 2001 and an invited speaker (45 min) for International Congress of Mathematicians in 2010. His research interest lies mainly in asymptotic theory in probability and statistics, self-normalized limit theory, high-dimensional and large-scale statistical analysis, Stein's method for normal and non-normal approximation, etc. He has published over 170 papers in mainstream probability and statistics journals at home and abroad and three Springer monographs.
Dean of Institute for Quantum Science and Engineering
Professor Yu is a Chair Professor in Department of Physics, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, winner of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) Distinguished Young Scholars project and the Yangtze River Scholar Award. He focuses on the fundamental science of nanowire materials and the controllable preparation of quantum materials. For the more than 400 papers he issued, the total number of citations exceeds 20,000, and the H-index reaches 56. Professor Yu has entered top three in “physics and Astronomy field” for multiple times.
Honorary Dean of Shenzhen Grubbs Institute
Professor Robert H. Grubbs, the Honorary Dean of the Shenzhen Grubbs Institute, the Victor and Elizabeth Atkins Professor of Chemistry at the California Institute of Technology, Member of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences (1989), the American Academy of Arts and Sciences (1994) and the National Academy of Engineering of the National Academies (2015), Foreign Member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (2015). Professor Grubbs was the co-recipient of the 2005 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his epoch-making contribution to olefin metathesis. His original and innovative research achievements in the precision catalysis have a vital impact on the development of new medicine, new materials and new energy.
Executive Dean of Shenzhen Grubbs Institute
Professor Haiping Xia, the Executive Dean of Shenzhen Grubbs Institute, Chair Professor of Chemistry at SUSTech. He has received many prestigious awards, including the National Science Funds for Distinguished Young Scholar in 2009 and the Huang Yao-Zeng Organometallic Chemistry Award of Chinese Chemical Society in 2016. Professor Xia has developed a revolutionary novel aromatic system (Carbolong Complexes), which was elected as one of the “Ten Major Scientific and Technological Progress of China’s Colleges and Universities” in 2013.
Director of SUSTech International Center for Mathematics
Efim Zelmanov, member of National Academy of Science and Rita L. Atkinson Endowed Chair at University of California San Diego, is an outstanding visiting professor in SUSTech. His main research areas are uncombined algebra, Lie Algebra and group theory.
In 1994, Professor Zelmanov won the Fields Medal for solving the Restricted Burnside conjecture. The Fields Medal is an international award by the International Mathematical Union and known as the equivalence of Noble Prize in mathematics. He not only solved some major contemporary mathematical problems, but also introduced a number of new mathematical theories, new methods and directions. He is regarded as one of the greatest algebras of the time. Today, Professor Zelmanov is still standing at the frontier of mathematical research and leading the development of mathematics.
Executive Director of SUSTech International Center for Mathematics
Professor Tang Tao, member of Chinese Academy of Sciences, is a Chair Professor in the Department of Mathematics at SUSTech. He is also awarded the Yangtze River Scholar Award and the National Special Experts. He has long devoted himself to computational mathematics and made great contributions to the high-accuracy algorithm for differential equation. His honors include the election as a Fellow of the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) and a Fellow of the American Mathematical Society. He is now the Deputy Director of China Society for Computational Mathematics. Among his numerous honors are the Feng Kang Prize for Scientific Computing, First Prize of the Natural Science Award by the Ministry of Education, and Second Prize in the State Natural Science Award.
